The Oxford has opened in the historic Murphy Avenue in Sunnyvale. The Oxford Gastropub is serving sophisticated food and drink inspired by the eclectic, energetic verve of the streets of London.

– The grand opening kicks off 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 7 with “Garden in a Glass”; when folks are invited to bring in fresh herbs from the Farmers Market to the The Oxford’s bartender who will incorporate them into a distinctive cocktail to be enjoyed with complimentary samplings from the restaurant and menu.

– From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., The Oxford will be pouring wine at the Magic of Sunnyvale; Wine Stroll on Murphy Avenue followed by an official ribbon cutting at the restaurant at 5 p.m. with cocktails, appetizers and live music.

The modern-day pub features an expansive bar, wood wainscoting, vintage-style caged Edison lights, and classic white subway tiles in homage to the London Underground. The colorful wall art pays tribute to London’s most famed cultural touchstones, including the Beatles, the Clash, Princess Diana, Beefeaters, and Big Ben.

The playful dishes — sized from bites (“small fellows’’) to mains (“big fellows’’) — emphasize California sensibilities with the use of local, seasonal and often organic ingredients from Zuckerman’s Farm, Iacopi Farms, Panorama Baking Company, and Mary’s Chicken.

Both classic and contemporary cocktails are spotlighted, including originals such as the Yamato Sling #3, made with Broker’s Gin, sake, Vanilla-Ceylon Elixir Green Tea, and Blackstrap Bitters; and The Bluejay, a unique blend of Mexican lager, Fidencio Classico Mezcal, grapefruit, lime and Bittercube Jamaican #2 Bitters. In a nod to London’s long love affair with this botanical spirit, The Oxford also boasts seven gin cocktails. A range of wines, including nine by the glass, also are offered, along with 24 beers, including half a dozen on tap.
